Dive Trip - Gozo, Malta 2018
Its that time again… HDC is going back to the lovely island of Gozo.
Herts Dive Club is heading back to the jewel in the Mediterranean, the beautiful island of Gozo in Malta. The Maltese islands have consistently been voted one of the best dive destinations in the world and 2018 is no different.
We are currently putting together the package in terms of accommodation, diving and vehicle hire etc but we estimate costs to be around £250 per person (not including flights). HDC will look after booking the diving and accommodation but those who decide to go will need to arrange their own flights. But we will update with more information once it is all confirmed.
The country’s official languages are Maltese and English, although there are strong historical ties to the Italian language on the islands. Malta gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1964 and is currently a member of the European Union which it joined in 2004.
Gozo (Maltese: Għawdex). Compared to its neighbour island, Gozo is more rural and known for its scenic hills, which feature on its coat of arms.
A popular nickname of Gozo is the Isle of Calypso, derived from the location of Ogygia in Greek mythological poem Homer’s Odyssey. In the myth, the island was controlled by nymph Calypso who detained the hero of the story Odysseus there as a prisoner of love for seven years; Gozo is thought to be modern day Ogygia.
The island itself has a population of around 31,000 people (all of Malta combined has 402,000), and its inhabitants are known as Gozitans (Maltese: Għawdxin). It is rich in historical locations such as the Ġgantija temples, which are the world’s oldest free-standing structures, as well as the world’s oldest religious structures.
Moby Dives located on Malta’s sister island of Gozo, is a PADI 5 STAR IDC diving school offering a whole range of PADI scuba diving courses, from Open Water all the way through to Instructor Development Courses in the most idyllic of settings. Xlendi Bay – a picturesque fishing village located on the south-west coast of the island.

At Moby Dives, we also offer a comprehensive range of accommodation options at affordable prices, either in our self-catering apartments at Ulysses Village or Xlendi Heights and farmhouses with or without pool situated in the various villages in Gozo.
