Herts Dive Club is delighted to announce that it has been awarded Lottery Funding against it “I can Dive” initiative designed to train local children, teenagers, adults and families in how to scuba dive. Since being established in 2009 HDC has grown to support various groups and people from the local community by providing them with the opportunity to try scuba diving.

We believe that scuba diving is a great physical activity that provides opportunities for people to experience exciting underwater activity that will give them a chance to swim underwater, experience adventure and discover new things. For children in particularly, it helps to increase their self-confidence/self-esteem, develop their non-verbal communication skills, learn about water safety/awareness, and learn more about themselves. It also gives them a structured environment to develop skills in a fun, controlled and safe environment. These skills include punctuality, awareness, team working, self-discipline, enjoyment and satisfaction of achievement.

In the past year HDC has been contacted by many groups who would like to try diving, especially disaffected/disadvantage groups, those supporting disabled children and those from uniformed groups e.g. scouts and guides. We have also been contacted by two local schools looking to add Scuba diving to their extra-curricular programme during weekends and school holidays.Now we have obtained this funding, we aim to work with local schools to deliver scuba courses. Each session will consist of 15-20 students and will take place at Hatfield Swim Centre, as well as transporting children further afield to Open Water and Coastal Dive Sites in the UK.

Kids Scuba DivingMany of these children would not usually get the opportunity to try scuba diving, however now we have been awarded funding we are able to offer this experience to children in the local area.

Funding will also enable us to purchase equipment and provide a trailer to transport this dive equipment to make these sessions possible. Equipment includes;

  • New Trailer to transport Dive Equipment
  • Replacement & updated Diving Kit
  • Regulators
  • Dive Computers
  • PADI Materials for Training Courses
