HDC is delighted to announce that it has been officially accredited by the Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI) as a Youth Training Centre. This means that Herts Dive Club is recognised as a training facility that can specifically meet the needs of young people, schools and youth groups.
PADI YOUTH PROGRAMMES GUIDE
PADI has developed a number of programmes aimed specifically at the youth market. These programmes offer a unique experience for children to take part in diving activities under the supervision of a PADI diving professional. Programmes available include:
Supplied Air Snorkelling for Youth (SASY)
Supplied Air Snorkelling systems are BCD-like floatation devices that combine snorkelling with a compressed air cylinder and regulator. SASY units allow users to swim on the surface only and breathe air supplied via a regulator and cylinder. The units are designed so that the participants are unable to submerge. In particular they provide children who are too young for the Bubblemaker programme a way to experience the thrill of diving albeit on the surface. Minimum Age 5 Maximum Depth – Surface Only
The Bubblemaker programme introduces scuba as an activity that allows children to experience the underwater world. Under close supervision, participants swim around on scuba in shallow confined water – just playing. Colourful Bubblemaker emblems, decals, towels and toys along with a distinctive recognition certificate and card, make the experience one to remember. Minimum Age 8 Maximum Depth – 2 Metres/6 Feet
Discover Scuba Diving
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program introduces potential divers, 10 years of age and older, to scuba diving in a highly supervised and relaxed manner.New divers begin using scuba equipment and experience a shallow dive under supervision. The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program can take place in a swimming pool, protected confined open water area and at an open water dive site. Discover Scuba Diving participants may be able to make additional supervised open water dives with the original instructor, dive centre or resort after completing an entire Discover Scuba Diving experience. Discover Scuba Diving also allows them to potentially complete Confined Water Dive One and Open Water Dive One (from the Open Water Diver course) as part of the experience. This allows participants to earn credit toward the Open Water Diver Course. Minimum Age 10 Maximum Depth – 12 Metres/40 Feet
Seal Team Programme
The PADI Seal Team programme is an exciting underwater activity–filled introduction to the world of diving. The PADI Seal Team gives children a chance to swim around underwater and experience adventure, discovery and thrill. It also provides parents or guardians with a structured programme that lets their children develop skills, learn about the aquatic realm and have lots of fun at the same time. The PADI Seal Team programmes’ various AquaMissions are conducted in a swimming pool. To become official members of the PADI Seal Team, children must complete the first five AquaMissions. These activities develop fundamental scuba skills and knowledge while preparing children for further adventure. Children learn about diving by watching the PADI Seal Team video and working through the PADI Seal Team AquaMission Activity Book. Each AquaMission consists of a briefing, a skill session, and a game or activity. Completing the pool dive and answering challenge questions in their PADI Seal Team AquaMission Logbooks earn young divers an AquaMission decal. Completing AquaMissions 1-5, which is equivalent to completing the skills in Confined Water Dive One from the PADI Open Water Diver Course, means youngsters are PADI Seal Team members. Receiving a PADI Seal Team member card and wall certificate recognises their accomplishments and allows them to work toward PADI Master Seal Team recognition.
This ultimate recognition level is achieved by completing a further 10 specialty AquaMissions. www.padisealteam.com As part of their PADI Seal Team membership, PADI Seals have access to a special website designed for young divers. There, young divers can learn more about the PADI Seal Team and the Specialty AquaMissions.
They will also have the opportunity to link to the PADI web site (padi.com) and Project AWARE (projectaware.org). Minimum Age 8 Maximum Depth – 4 Metres/12 Feet
